BMW CE 02 in India: Will the Futuristic Urban EV Bike Hit Indian Roads?

The electric revolution is reshaping the future of urban mobility—and BMW’s latest entry into this space, the BMW CE 02, is grabbing global attention. Touted as a stylish, compact, and efficient e-bike for city riders, it has raised curiosity in India. But is it available here? What can we expect if BMW brings it to our market?

What is the BMW CE 02?

Unveiled globally in 2023, the BMW CE 02 is a futuristic electric two-wheeler designed for young, urban riders. It blends minimalism with smart tech, offering performance suitable for both commuting and casual weekend cruising.

 Key Features and Specs:

  • Motor: 8 kW (10.7 hp) electric motor

  • Battery: 4.7 kWh lithium-ion

  • Range: Up to 90–170 km (eco mode)

  • Top Speed: ~120 km/h

  • Acceleration: 0–50 km/h in ~3.5 seconds

  • Design: Lightweight, skateboard-inspired flat body

  • Connectivity: TFT display, smartphone integration via BMW Motorrad app

Where is the CE 02 Available?

Currently, the CE 02 is available in Europe and the United States, with enthusiastic reception from young riders, delivery platforms, and green commuters. It’s positioned as an alternative to traditional 125cc scooters and bikes, offering sustainability with German design.

Is the BMW CE 02 Available in India?

As of June 2025, BMW Motorrad India has not officially launched the CE 02 in the country. There have been no press releases or dealer confirmations about its availability or pricing in India.

However, due to increasing demand for premium electric two-wheelers and India’s growing EV infrastructure, the CE 02 may be considered for a future launch.

Expected BMW CE 02 Price in India

If launched in India, the CE 02 is expected to come as a CBU (Completely Built Unit) or CKD (Completely Knocked Down) model.

Estimated Ex-showroom Price: ₹8 to ₹10 lakh
Estimated On-road Price: ₹10 to ₹12 lakh+

This positions it in a premium niche segment, potentially competing with high-end EV scooters and imported bikes.

 Challenges for Indian Market Entry

  • High import duties for CBU models

  • Limited charging infrastructure in Tier 2/3 cities

  • Market preference for cost-effective EVs

  • Lack of subsidies for high-end electric bikes

 Why India Still Makes Sense

Despite pricing concerns, India is one of the world’s largest two-wheeler markets. The success of brands like Ather, Ola, and Ultraviolette shows that there is demand for electric performance bikes—especially in metro cities like Bengaluru, Delhi, and Mumbai.

If BMW decides to localize production or assemble via CKD, it could become more competitively priced.

 Conclusion: Is It Coming Soon?

The BMW CE 02 is not available in India yet, but it represents a bold step toward future-ready urban commuting. Enthusiasts and early adopters should keep an eye on BMW Motorrad’s announcements. If launched, it could redefine what electric two-wheelers mean for premium urban riders in India.
